Abstract

This paper suggests that early awareness and consideration of NVHproblems is an advantage in a lightweight world. The paper presents techniques for classifying and identifying problems atthe concept stage.Several physical models of design elements are used examine underscorechallenges and opportunities via isolation and avoidance strategies.Examples of good design are drawn from existing vehicles. Design trends areidentified that help and hinder problem free designs. The paper then considers means of increasing mass efficiency via newapproaches and technologies, including new materials.
