Abstract
Industry 4.0 and Regional Transformations By Professor David Bailey, Senior Fellow at the UK in a Changing Europe, Professor of Business Economics at Birmingham Business School & Visiting Professor at the Centre for Brexit Studies and Professor Lisa De Propris, Professor of Regional Economic Development at Birmingham Business SchoolPrevious industrial revolutionswere intricately associated with new technologies.Innovations related to steam power, cotton, steel, and railways helped to give us the first industrial revolution of mass production and mechanisation. The second was triggered by the introduction of electricity, heavy and mechanical engineering and synthetic chemistry, while the third came with innovations in electronics and computers, petrochemicals and aerospace.
