Project 'LiVE'-Learning in Virtual Environments, was set up to investigate the viability of virtual worlds for the students to plan and undertake location shoots in and around Millennium Point and its surrounding area, near the city center of Birmingham. Second Life (SL) was chosen as the virtual environment for the project because it is an easy environment for users to comprehend, and it allows relatively easy constructing of virtual buildings and artifacts. Millennium Point is an impressive modern building with cavernous public spaces, marble floors and metallic infrastructure. The teams were required to reconstruct the set for the 'Steps of Odessa' scene from the 1927 Eisenstein film 'Battleship Potemkin' in the public area of the virtual Millennium Point. Apart from shot planning students could assess the safety issues involved prior to undertaking the real shoot. The virtual Millennium Point model has gained much interest from various public and private organizations.
