Abstract

This chapter explores the various early recordings of French piano repertoire, including not just acoustic era discs and cylinders, but also piano rolls. It considers the nature of the repertoire recorded, the state of existing research on them and some of the traits of the recordings along with lessons that might be learnt from them.
